Independent bookstore opened in 2011 by novelist Ann Patchett and Karen Hayes, with a local-author section and an author event calendar that runs most weeks.
Parnassus Books was opened in 2011 by novelist Ann Patchett and her business partner Karen Hayes. Patchett became the sole owner in the summer of 2022, after Hayes retired.
The store stocks fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, local interest and the arts, and keeps a section of books by local authors. Every Ann Patchett title it sells is signed.
It holds author events through most of the year, both in the store and at larger venues around the city, and runs in-store book clubs, including a romance club, Between the Covers. Its online magazine, Musing, carries staff reading lists and author interviews.
